In the wake of their parents’ tragic deaths, Benjamin “Benny” Pearl and his sister Juniper (“Joon”) grapple with their respective mental health challenges, trying to navigate an uncertain life together. Everything shifts dramatically with the arrival of Sam, a quirky cousin of Benny’s friend Mike. Initially hesitant about Sam moving in, Benny’s feelings evolve as he observes Sam’s unconventional yet effective cleaning techniques and his earnest willingness to pitch in with their daily lives.

As Joon becomes more intertwined with Sam’s world, she takes on the role of matchmaker, assisting Sam in composing letters to his mother. This act of kindness sparks a series of events that will test familial and friendly ties. A dinner date between Benny and Ruthie, a delightful waitress at the diner, is interrupted by an urgent call from home, where Joon and Sam’s bond is rapidly strengthening.

Amidst a backdrop of blossoming romance, highlighted by a tender kiss at their local diner and a memorable evening spent together at home, tensions rise. However, he is surprised when he arrives at Joon’s new apartment to find her and Sam joyfully preparing grilled cheese sandwiches using an unconventional cooking method – a clothing iron – injecting a playful note into their newfound domestic harmony.
