Leah Tilson, portrayed by Sharon Stone, rises early at 4:30 AM in bustling New York City. Her husband, Cooper Tilson, reminds her to reset the alarm clock to ensure he wakes up on time for the kids and his job. They have two children: 13-year-old Kristen and 12-year-old Jesse.
During a business trip on an airplane, Leah, impeccably dressed for her corporate role, discusses career advancement with her boss, Dave Miller. He makes an inappropriate offer — a promotion to company vice president in exchange for spending the night together.
Back home, a frazzled Cooper awakens only to discover that Leah forgot to reset the alarm, leaving him scrambling to get their children ready and out the door. Caught in a traffic jam, chaos ensues as he receives a phone call from Leah amidst honking horns and bickering kids. In a panicked attempt to reach school on foot, Jesse inadvertently runs into the street, resulting in a tragic accident with an impatient driver. Fortunately, he survives.
That evening, Leah returns to find Jesse unharmed, prompting the couple to reconsider their living situation in the overwhelming city. With a plan to relocate, the Tilsons embark on their journey to a new life.
Driving through rural areas, they stop at Pinski’s, a quaint gas station/store. There they encounter Ruby, a flirtatious attendant who inquires about their background and their interest in a repossessed property — Cold Creek Manor. Confidently, they press on in search of their new home despite Ruby’s uneasy demeanor.
Upon reaching Cold Creek Manor, they discover the once-grand estate shrouded in neglect. Inside, remnants of past inhabitants litter the space: unmade beds, dishes left behind, and a myriad of family photos whispering stories of those who lived there. Unexpectedly, they are approached by Sheriff Annie Ferguson, who seems oblivious to the house’s sale. Intrigued and compelled, the Tilson family decides to purchase the property.
As they settle in, Cooper, an aspiring documentary filmmaker, uncovers intriguing tidbits about Cold Creek’s past, hidden within the house’s forgotten corners. As Jesse explores, he stumbles upon a boy’s bedroom filled with remnants of Grady, a previous occupant, including a sinister poem that chills him to the bone. The family seems to find joy and settle into their new life, introducing Kristen to her new horse, Chester, on her birthday.
However, unease settles in when Jesse witnesses a strange man rifling through Cooper’s workspace. This man, Dale Massie, claims a troubled history linked to the manor. Despite his raw and unsettling demeanor, the Tilsons approve him for a job, unaware of the dark secrets he harbors. As the days progress, Dale’s behavior grows increasingly unsettling, overtly intrusive, and intertwined with Ruby in a stormy relationship.
Strange occurrences spiral into chaos, unsettling the family’s once peaceful existence. Suspicious and series of events unfold, leading Cooper to question not only Dale’s intentions but also the tragedy that befell the manor’s former residents, who seem ever-present in the whispers of the wind and shadows around them.
Fateful discoveries about Dale’s past unfold alongside eerie happenings, leading Cooper deeper into the mystery. He learns truths from the local sheriff about Dale’s infractions and the estate’s dark history, compounding his suspicions. In a series of escalating confrontations, Cooper confronts Dale, who represents an escalating threat against his family, revealing their intertwining fates as past horrors rear their heads.
In a climactic battle of survival, Cooper must protect his family as the evil tied to Cold Creek Manor reveals itself in chilling clarity. As storms rage and darkness envelopes their new home, a desperate fight for life emerges, unraveling Dale’s twisted motivations and their connection to the lost souls of the past.
Through twists of fate and raw determination, the Tilsons must grapple with the wearing toll of their new life as protectors not only of their home but of their very lives against Dale’s sinister grip that seeks to reclaim what once belonged to him. In the end, as the sun breaks through the ominous clouds, the family finds solace and a semblance of peace, ready to embrace the future in the remnants of a haunted past.
