On August 12, 2011, a series of mysterious meteors crash into the ocean, causing chaos near 20 major coastal cities. This event signals the onset of what appears to be a natural disaster but soon reveals itself to be an alien invasion.

Following the meteor crash, it quickly becomes clear that extraterrestrial forces are behind the phenomenon. Coastal cities such as San Diego and San Francisco fall to these hostile aliens, leading to widespread panic and destruction.

As Los Angeles braces for evacuation, the military deploys Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz and his platoon from Camp Pendleton to defend the city. Nantz, an Iraq War veteran, has doubts about his ability to lead his men after suffering heavy losses in a previous mission.

Nantz's platoon reaches a forward operating base at Santa Monica Airport, where they prepare for combat. The atmosphere is tense as the inexperienced 2nd Lieutenant William Martinez leads the preparations, with Nantz’s leadership under scrutiny.

Just as the Air Force prepares to strike the area, the platoon receives orders to rescue civilians trapped in a local LAPD station. Nantz and his team steel themselves for the perilous task ahead, knowing full well the dangers that await.

As they navigate the alien-infested streets, the platoon encounters an ambush that leads to significant casualties. Nantz uses his tactical skills to navigate them to safety, highlighting his leadership and the harsh realities of the battle.

Nantz, alongside Corporals Imlay and Harris, embarks on a high-risk mission to locate missing Private First Class Shaun 'Casper' Lenihan. Their operation takes a chaotic turn when they confront an alien during the rescue, showcasing both bravery and skill.

The team reunites with Technical Sergeant Elena Santos and intensifies efforts to rescue five civilians, including veterinarian Michele and several children. This mission becomes increasingly dangerous as they face brutal attacks from the alien forces.
