Rajiva is on his way to visit his sister Sharada, but upon arrival he discovers that her husband has died. Sharada, the elder sister, and Ramachandra, the elder brother, have long operated under the sway of his wife Chaya, which has left the family with few resources. Seeing the hardship that falls on Sharada’s children and the wider household, Rajiva decides to stay and help, determined to steady the family’s future. To keep Sharada and her family afloat, he borrows from Rachutappa, the village head, and sends Sharada’s sons, Keshava and Chakrapani, to Bangalore for higher studies. This marks the start of Rajiva’s broader plan to reinvest in the village and secure a better life for everyone around him. He also confronts a challenge to his brother-in-law’s land, which had been occupied by Honnaiah. After a tense confrontation, Rajiva reclaim's the land and begins irrigation, signaling the practical impact of his return and the beginning of his rise in the community.

Meanwhile, Rajiva’s heart turns toward his neighbor’s daughter, Lakshmi. Her presence adds a personal motive to Rajiva’s ambition, and his affection for her becomes part of a larger tapestry of family duty and long-term vision. Motivated to improve their lives even more, Rajiva purchases 25 acres of barren land near the village from the government, transforming the landscape and his own circumstances. His hard work pays off; he becomes a prosperous and respected figure in the village, and his influence grows as he expands irrigation and agricultural success. Yet his success comes with a peculiar pattern: every six months, he travels to Belgaum, where he maintains a discreet connection with Sharavathi and her son Kishore.

Back home, life continues to weave new bonds. Keshava marries Nagaveni, the daughter of Ramachandra, and Chakrapani agrees to marry Nandini, the daughter of a family friend. Sridhar, a friend of Keshava and Chakrapani whose education Rajiva once sponsored, marries Saraswati, Sharada’s daughter. In the midst of these unions, Rajiva also agrees to marry Lakshmi, tying the personal and the professional strands of his life even more tightly together.

One day, Patil, a neighbor of Sharavathi, visits Keshava’s house to intervene in a transfer and notices Rajiva’s photo, recognizing him as Kasturi and informing Keshava of Rajiva’s periodic Belgaum visits. To verify the claim, Keshava travels to Belgaum and sees Rajiva’s photo in Sharavathi’s house. When questioned about Rajiva, Sharavathi answers with a telling phrase, Mane Yajamanradu, the house owner, underscoring a surprising truth about their family ties and Rajiva’s role in their lives.

Filled with a mix of indignation and disbelief, Keshava confronts Rajiva and demands 50,000 rupees to start a business. Rajiva remains steadfast, insisting that he will provide support only when it truly holds value and meaning for their shared future. The confrontation deepens as Keshava accuses Rajiva of adultery, a charge met with denial by Lakshmi and Sharada, who refuse to believe the gossip. Sharada even recalls Rajiva as a steadfast, Bangaarada Manushya, a memory that strengthens the bonds of trust within the family, and they decide not to reveal the truth about Sharavathi to Rajiva.

Tragedy interrupts this tense moment when Lakshmi is chased by a bull while bringing lunch to her husband in the field. Rajiva steps in to fend off the bull and dives to rescue Lakshmi when she falls into a nearby well, but despite his efforts, she drowns. The loss shakes the village and deepens Rajiva’s sense of responsibility for the lives around him, even as personal pain weighs heavily on his decisions.

Nagaveni’s counsel leads Keshava to seek legal help to reclaim what he believes is rightly theirs, and a rift forms between Rajiva and Sharada during their disagreement. Keshava’s harsh words about Rajiva pierce the quiet of the home, and Rajiva, distressed, washes his hands and leaves without eating, praying for the village’s well-being rather than his own comfort.

Chakrapani ultimately locates Sharavathi and brings her to Rajiva’s house to demonstrate Rajiva’s generosity to Keshava. Sharavathi then reveals a hidden truth: she is their half-sister, the illegitimate child of Sharada’s husband. Rajiva had kept this secret and continued to support her all these years. The revelation adds a new layer to the family’s history and Rajiva’s quiet leadership. In the end, the family searches for Rajiva but cannot find him, and he steps away into the sunset, a figure of unresolved mystery and enduring devotion to those he cared for.
