Yusuf Ağa, Meray Ülgen, is the village’s steadfast landlord, endlessly sending petitions to distant state officials in the hope that the voice of his tiny Southeast Anatolian village will be heard in the heart of the central government. In a place where records are scarce and few maps acknowledge its existence, Tinne struggles with a stubborn sense of invisibility. The land is described as a forgotten patch in Mesopotamia, a place that has no school, no road, no clinic, and no civil paperwork. People here operate without identification papers, and the question of existence itself looms large. Tinne’s inhabitants have lived under this shadow for years, and Yusuf and his family have called it home for more than a century.

In a vital act born out of that longing for recognition, Yusuf risks everything for his newborn son, Ibrahim: he leaves the baby in the courtyard of a university so that he might grow up with a chance to exist as someone who can be counted.
