Another Simple Favor

The film begins with Stephanie Smothers, portrayed by Anna Kendrick, who finds herself under house arrest in beautiful Capri. Through her YouTube channel, she addresses her audience, explaining the circumstances that have led her to this predicament. After revealing that she exposed Emily Nelson, played by Blake Lively, for the murder of her father and twin sister Faith, Stephanie has transitioned into a successful true crime vlogger with her channel “A Pinch of Murder.” Additionally, she authored a book titled “The Faceless Blonde,” chronicling her chilling experience with Emily. However, this newfound fame seems to embarrass her son Miles, portrayed by Joshua Satine, especially since it is implied that a swim coach—exposed during her investigation for his heinous crimes and whose life ended tragically in front of her—might have been innocent all along.

As Stephanie drops Miles off at camp, accompanied by her friend Darren, played by Andrew Rannells, and his daughter, she later attends a book signing event alongside her assistant Vicky, played by Alex Newell, as well as fellow friends Sona (Aparna Nancherla) and Stacy (Kelly McCormack). During the event, Detective Summerville, portrayed by Bashir Salahuddin, interrupts to deliver some news, but Vicky quickly ushers Stephanie to her reading. To everyone’s surprise, Emily appears, taunting Stephanie about her book sales and insisting she be the maid of honor at her upcoming wedding in Capri. Reluctantly, Stephanie agrees, fearing legal repercussions regarding her book.

On the flight to the wedding, Stephanie is among a mix of affluent passengers and is instructed not to use her phone or take photos. Once they arrive in Capri, Stephanie is introduced to Emily’s former husband Sean Townsend, played by Henry Golding, and their son Nicky. Sean, characterized by his bitterness and drunkenness, openly expresses his grievances towards both women. Under strange circumstances, Stephanie attempts to document her experiences, only to be confronted by suspicious armed individuals. This raises tensions, as it is clear the Versano family, led by Dante Versano, played by Michele Morrone, is entangled with organized crime.

As the plot unfolds at a chaotic wedding celebration, interactions between family members, particularly between Emily and her mother Margaret, reveal familial strife. Amidst the disputes, Sean’s tragic demise during steamy chaos sends shockwaves through the gathering; however, Stephanie incurs suspicion when signs implicate her in the murder.

Later on, as confusion reigns, Stephanie encounters Agent Irene Walker, portrayed by Taylor Ortega, who informs her of shadowy dealings surrounding the McLanden family, including an unplanned confrontation with Emily. Just when Stephanie thinks she has pieced things together, she uncovers the presence of Charity, Emily’s presumed-dead triplet sister, who has sinister motives to usurp Emily’s life. This climactic realization leads to harrowing twists and turns as Charity attempts to frame Stephanie for shocking acts of violence, further complicating her battle for truth and survival.

As the final act unfolds, with action-packed scenes of deception, revenge, and familial secrets exposed, Stephanie finds strength in unlikely alliances while navigating life-or-death situations. The climax hinges on Charity’s change of heart, leading to a violent confrontation with their manipulative mother Linda, played by Allison Janney, culminating in a revelation that shakes them to their core.

Ultimately, Stephanie emerges from this web of lies, injustices, and peril, finally ready to share her truth in her next upcoming book. As she begins a new chapter in her life, she receives a call from Emily, assuring her that they will remain connected.
