Another Day in Paradise

Bobbie attempts to rob vending machines at a local college. He is confronted by a night guard who brutally attacks him. In the ensuing fight, Bobbie stabs the guard to death, starting a grim chain of events.

Severely injured, Bobbie returns to Rosie’s flophouse for help. Rosie contacts Mel, an experienced thief, to assist. Mel provides Bobbie with heroin to ease his pain.

After Bobbie heals, Mel and his girlfriend Sid take Bobbie and Rosie under their wing. The foursome begins a string of drug heists across the Midwest. Their work culminates in a lucrative raid on a small clinic, which nets them a significant sum.

Rosie learns she is pregnant, which elates Sid. Mel later reveals he cannot conceive a child, adding strain to the group’s dynamic. The news shifts their motives as they continue their crime spree.

Mel and Bobbie sell stolen narcotics from a rundown motel as a group of armed rednecks attempt to steal their stash. A fierce shootout ensues; Mel and Bobbie are shot, but both kill the four attackers and take their money. They flee toward safety with the loot.

The group reaches the Reverend's home, a preacher who is also an illegal arms dealer. He lets them stay only if they give him half of their haul. They accept the uneasy bargain and continue their operations.

Mel, Bobbie, and Sid reconnect with Jewels, a flamboyant criminal. They plan a major robbery together, but Rosie is hesitant after the near-death experience. The tension builds as the crew sets the date.

The night before the planned heist, Rosie dies from a heroin overdose in their motel. Bobbie is crushed by the loss but keeps it secret as he continues with the plan. Sid and the others sense the strain but push forward.

On arrival at the targeted home, Jewels is already inside beating the male occupant while his wife is bound. The robbery quickly spirals; Bobbie shoots Jewels, killing him. In a panic, Mel murders the homeowners to avoid police identification.

The trio escapes with $80,000 but the mood is grim. Mel is furious at Bobbie for killing Jewels and jeopardizing their safety. They press on, wary of pursuit.

During the drive, Bobbie reveals that Rosie is dead, and her body awaits back at the motel. Sid is overwhelmed by the maternal ties forming around Rosie and Bobbie, causing a mental breakdown. The group’s unity begins to crumble.

At a roadside gas stop, Mel pressures Sid to help murder Bobbie to hide their crimes. Sid reluctantly agrees after Mel threatens her life. Bobbie flees into a cornfield as Mel searches for him, unable to spot him; Mel then punches Sid for the betrayal and drives away.
