Annavaram

Annavaram becomes Pothuraju after his close friend Narasimha is murdered by Gutkha Pandu's elder brother Puranapool Ganga during a confrontation at Golconda Fort. This tragic loss, combined with his earlier experiences witnessing crime and corruption in Hyderabad, including the terror caused by dons like Tappas Balu and the disruption of his brother-in-law's canteen business, convince Annavaram that the police cannot or will not protect innocent people. He leaves his village under the pretense of finding a job but secretly begins his violent crusade to cleanse the city of all dons.

Earlier in the village, Annavaram expresses to Narasimha his desire to protect his sister and ensure she has a good life in the city, hinting at his protective nature.

After sending Balu a 24-hour death threat letter, Annavaram learns that Balu has kidnapped ACP Yadav's daughter to use as a hostage. Annavaram disguises himself as a wounded man and allows Balu's henchmen to capture him. Once inside Balu's hideout, he reveals his identity as Pothuraju and engages in a fierce fight, killing Balu and all his men while rescuing the inspector's daughter.

Earlier, Annavaram had saved a court witness from Balu, demonstrating his willingness to confront dangerous criminals.

Inspector Sairam initially tries to stop Annavaram's vigilante mission, but everything changes when Tappas Balu kills Sairam's son in retaliation for Annavaram's crusade. This personal tragedy transforms Sairam from an obstacle into an ally. He provides Annavaram with a detailed map of the entire mafia network in Hyderabad, listing the leaders of each territory and their chain of command, enabling Annavaram to systematically target the dons.

Sairam's initial opposition to Annavaram's plan is established early, making his eventual turn more impactful.

When Gutkha Pandu hides inside a politician's residence for protection, the politician stages a fake financial fraud rally in front of his own house to attract police attention and ensure security. Using this distraction, Annavaram enters the house through the back, kills Pandu with the crowd's help, and escapes before authorities realize what happened.

Earlier, Annavaram had defeated Balu using clever disguises, establishing his pattern of infiltration tactics.

Annavaram sends Ganga an empty coffin and funeral posters announcing his own death as a psychological warfare tactic. This bold provocation publicly challenges Ganga's power and forces him to react desperately. Furious Ganga beats his wife and seeks massive protection from his network of thugs, but this display of vulnerability and fear plays into Annavaram's strategic plan for the final attack on December 31.

The coffin and posters mirror Annavaram's earlier pattern of sending ominous threats before each major confrontation.

Annavaram disguises himself as a police inspector and, with Sairam's cooperation, engineers a confrontation at Ganga's fortress. He triggers a ruse involving a dead thug that provokes a violent police assault on the building, creating chaos that masks his true actions. As the city celebrates New Year's Eve, Annavaram stabs Ganga and throws him from a window, escaping before the police realize the ruse. The city celebrates not knowing exactly what happened.

Earlier, Annavaram had used police uniforms and disguises multiple times, including during the Balu confrontation.

Aishwarya meets Annavaram at a temple and learns that he is not actually employed at a cloth manufacturing company as he had claimed. He fabricates another cover story, claiming to work at a travel agency. She accepts this lie and extraction a promise from him to visit her often, allowing their relationship to continue despite his secret identity as Pothuraju.

Earlier romantic encounters between Annavaram and Aishwarya were established through comic mishaps in Hyderabad.

After receiving the mafia network map from Sairam, Annavaram notes down all the names but randomly selects Balu as his first target. This seemingly arbitrary choice demonstrates his methodical yet personal approach to the crusade. He then proceeds to systematically eliminate each don, Balu, then Gutkha Pandu, and finally Ganga, gradually weakening the entire criminal network that controls Hyderabad.

The sequence of targets follows the chronological order of when Annavaram first learned about each don's crimes.

Annavaram leaves his village to accompany his sister Varam and her new husband to Hyderabad, where they will begin their married life. He hopes that his sister will have a better life in the city. It is in Hyderabad that he encounters the criminal underworld, becomes a vigilante, and eventually transforms into Pothuraju.

Early in the film, Annavaram tells Narasimha he wants his sister to move to a better city after marriage.

Despite ACP Yadav questioning rally participants and even his own saved daughter, the people of Hyderabad refuse to reveal Pothuraju's true identity. They view him as a hidden savior who has protected them from oppressive dons when the police failed to act. This public support reflects the widespread corruption and ineffectiveness of law enforcement that drove Annavaram to become a vigilante in the first place.
