In 1987 Berlin, Frau Kutowski loses her grip on reality, convinced she is Anita Berber—the scandal‑making nude dancer and drug addict of post‑WWI Berlin who died in 1928. After being admitted to a psychiatric ward, she reenacts Berber’s final days in her mind, casting the hospital staff and patients as the dancer’s friends and associates.
