Allison Pyke, Brenda Song, is an angel in New York who receives smartphone notifications for miracles she can perform in exchange for points. She has spent nine years in the city trying to earn 10,000 points to be admitted into heaven, a life described as “good but not too good.” > good but not too good

To maintain her cover, she works as a waitress and regularly has sex with her boss, James Barker, Andy Favreau. A rival among angels, Leonard, Andrew Bachelor, pushes her to show more initiative, nudging her toward a new assignment that could boost her score.

When a notification appears to save a college student by fixing his computer, she seizes the moment. She questions the student about his crush and arranges a connection that leads to true love, earning her more than 11,000 points. Her angel mentor, Jason Biggs, Jason Biggs, congratulates her in person and tells her she will be transported to heaven by Greyhound Lines.

At the bus station, she encounters Patrick Dorsey, Ricky Mabe, her husband from a past life, along with his new love Jill, Anastasia Phillips, who have traveled from Nebraska to spend the holidays in New York. Knowing that revealing her identity would cost her points, she offers to act as their tour guide so she can spend time with him before returning to Earth. Despite warnings from Jason Biggs, she invites them to a Christmas party with Barker and his barista Connie, Elizabeth Bowen.

As the party unfolds, she grows increasingly inebriated on eggnog and finds her jealousy toward Jill rising. Barker notices the tension and prompts her to open up. From the gates of heaven, Jason Biggs sends a discreet SMS attempt to reel her back, but she presses on. She eventually confesses the truth to Patrick, and the pair share a kiss, though Jill spots them.

Pyke faints, waking later to a directive from Jason Biggs: she must repair the mess she created to reclaim her points. She sets out to apologize to Connie, Barker, Jill, and Patrick in turn. Patrick gains closure by speaking with her and accepts Jill as his partner, which helps her recover all of the points she lost.

She ascends to heaven with Leonard but keeps monitoring the miracle requests that keep popping up on her phone. Two weeks into her new life, she sees one more urgent plea for Barker—he is about to be crushed by a falling pipe. She steals Gandhi’s afterlife car and arrives just in time to save him. Before she can reveal it was her, a female French jogger checks on Barker, suggesting he may travel with her to France to fulfill the dreams he’s been holding back on.

For stealing the car, she is sentenced to 100,000 points and begins by attempting to reproduce the Miracle on the Hudson, this time in San Francisco Bay.
