Issak Ebrahem is an aspiring filmmaker passionate about bringing stories to life through the lens. His dream begins with a desire to craft a film that echoes the rich history of his hometown, Moidukka. To fund this ambitious project, Issak mortgages land he inherited, risking a lot to see his vision realized. He partners with talented actor Aravind and skilled cinematographer Sivakumar to turn his screenplay into a tangible film, titled Sky of Fireflies. Despite facing financial hardships during the shooting process, Issak’s perseverance pushes him to finish his first movie.
The journey doesn’t end there. With the help of Sivakumar, Issak submits Sky of Fireflies for a prestigious national award, aiming for recognition on a larger stage. Their efforts pay off when, at that year’s National Awards, Aravind wins Best Actor and the film takes home the Best Picture award. This remarkable achievement earns the film India’s submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, marking a significant milestone in Issak’s career.
During this time, a foreign marketing representative named Maria, from an international company, notices Issak’s film. She introduces Prince, a close friend of Issak who had traveled abroad, to the film’s screening. While a few showings garner positive reactions, issues soon surface. Maria becomes upset over delayed payments, and tensions rise over the lack of hospitality for some of the final guests, causing a quarrel between her, Issak, and Prince. Despite Prince’s deep passion for filmmaking, he is visibly distressed by the unfavorable events.
Soon after, Issak learns that his film did not make the final Oscar shortlist, a disappointing blow that prompts him to prepare for his return home. Before leaving, he creates another film, The Oscar Goes To, inspired by his experiences and the highs and lows of his journey through the cinematic world. Upon returning, Issak visits Moiduka, where he encounters his son Harshad at his home. The film concludes with Harshad’s return from abroad, still battling health issues, as Moiduka confesses that his son is not yet fully healed. Issak offers his apologies, reflecting on the hardships and lessons of his filmmaking odyssey, before departing from Moiduka, leaving behind a trail of hope, perseverance, and the power of storytelling.
