A British forest ranger stationed in a quiet South Indian village hears eerie noises from the stalks. He searches with his loyal dog, who is dragged into the crops and brutally slain by Ambuli, and the ranger himself follows soon after. The brutal encounter sets off a legacy of fear that haunts the fields.

In the 1970s, a lively farewell party marks the end of an era at Arthur Wellington College. Two friends, Amudhan and Vendhan, decide to stay behind in the college hostel for the vacation while Poongavanam remains in the nearby village. The mood is festive, but a sense of impending change hangs over the group.

One night, Amudhan makes a perilous journey through the cornfields to reach Poongavanam. Ambuli strikes again, forcing him off his cycle and sending him into a desperate retreat back toward the college. The chase deepens the fear that the creature is always watching from the stalks.

The two friends venture into the night to uncover the truth and stumble upon a wooden cabin in the heart of the fields. There they meet Sengodan, a reclusive man who guards the land with wary intensity. His stern demeanor immediately unsettles Amudhan and Vendhan, prompting a narrow escape.

The next day Amudhan questions Vethagiri, Vendhan’s father, about Ambuli and Sengodan. Vethagiri’s fear reveals a long history of tragedy as he recounts Ambuli’s reign of deaths in the fields and the coping through alcohol. He hints at a dark origin rooted in folklore and fear.

Vethagiri narrates a haunting origin: forty years earlier, on the day of a solar eclipse, a pregnant Ponni gives birth to a child who is not entirely human. Ponni’s decision to spare Ambuli, followed by her suicide, sows the seeds for the creature that haunts the fields. The tale sets the stage for Sengodan’s vengeance and Wellington’s perilous experiments.

Sengodan’s fury toward Wellington grows as he confronts a history of dangerous experiments and personal loss. The conflict ties the land’s mysteries to a scientist who sought to push human limits. His anger foreshadows violent actions sparked by the past.

Amudhan and Vendhan uncover journals and films kept by Sir Arthur Wellington, revealing a top secret project to breed genetically modified humans using Ponni as a test subject. The plan hinges on experiments and the survival of the fittest, alongside Neanderthal DNA. Ambuli’s birth is revealed to be altered by eclipse-related factors, making her vulnerable to sunlight.

Seemati warns Ponni to destroy Ambuli, warning of the danger to the village. Ponni’s decision to let Ambuli live instead leads to a ripple of consequences and intensifies Sengodan’s resolve to protect the community. The episode bridges myth and science with tragic implications.

With the truth in hand, Amudhan and Vendhan resolve to confront Ambuli. Poongavanam and Velpari join the plan, uniting the college, village, and allies in a coordinated effort to end the terror once and for all. The group prepares for a dangerous night in the fields.

The group tracks Ambuli to the caves, where an ape-like figure emerges from the darkness. Tension escalates as they confront the creature and realize the full danger it poses. The environment tightens the sense of imminent danger.

The clash draws in the army and police, aided by Sengodan’s fierce courage. Ambuli is subdued with tranquilizers and secured in a box, though Sengodan suffers serious injuries in the struggle. The hard-won victory comes at a cost.

In the aftermath, Sengodan explains his past actions: he had killed Gugan, mistaking him for Ambuli, and was trying to protect Poongavanam from the threat. The confession adds a grim layer of tragedy to the ongoing hunt. His motive reveals the personal stakes in the village’s long nightmare.

The villagers gather to honor Sengodan, Marudhan, Amudhan, and Vendhan for ending the long fear that had gripped the region. The celebration signals a fragile closure, tempered by the knowledge that danger may still lurk. The community finds a renewed sense of safety for now.
