Roger Podacter, the Dolphins' head of operations, died under suspicious circumstances and the police quickly labeled it a suicide. However, Ace's investigation uncovered evidence proving it was actually murder. The truth came out during the confrontation at the yacht facility when Ace revealed that Einhorn (who was really Ray Finkle) was the killer, having murdered Podacter to cover up his own identity and involvement in the kidnapping plot.

Earlier, Ace noticed that Podacter's death occurred right after he started getting too close to the truth about the kidnapping.

Ace went undercover at a psychiatric facility and found a newspaper clipping about Einhorn described as a missing hiker. Meanwhile, his friend Emilio searched Einhorn's desk and discovered a love letter from Roger Podacter. Connecting these clues with what he already knew about Ray Finkle's obsession with the 1984 Dolphins, Ace realized Einhorn and Finkle were the same person, the disgraced kicker who had been committed after blaming Dan Marino for his missed field goal.
