A Ducking They Did Go

After botching a watermelon theft, the Stooges were desperate for money and employment. When they wandered into the Canvas Back Duck Club offices, the conmen Blackie and Doyle offered them a job selling memberships. The trio didn't realize it was a scam, they simply thought they had found legitimate work and eagerly accepted, not understanding they were being used as unwitting pawns in a fraud scheme.

The Stooges were so enthusiastic about making sales that they went door-to-door in full duck-hunting gear. They burst into the police chief's office and pitch memberships to everyone present, including the police chief Bud Jamison and the mayor. This absurd boldness backfired spectacularly because they had unknowingly sold memberships to the very people who should have been investigating the fake club.

When the Stooges arrived at the lodge with their would-be clients, they discovered the conmen Blackie and Doyle had already vanished. An old man named John Rand informed them there were no wild ducks to be found at that location. The entire duck hunting club had been a scam from the start, the 'exclusive' hunting grounds didn't exist, and the conmen had no intention of providing any actual hunting.

When the hunting trip seemed ruined by the lack of real ducks, Curly improvised by leading a parade of live domestic ducks to the pond, reminiscent of the Pied Piper. He attracted the ducks somehow and brought them right to the water where the hunters were waiting, creating a chaotic but comedic 'success' for their demonstration.

The old man John Rand reappeared with constable Sam Lufkin, accusing Curly of stealing his prize domestic ducks. He claimed the ducks had been taken without permission and demanded five dollars per duck to replace them. This added a new layer of trouble on top of the already-failed hunting demonstration and the ongoing scam.

When hunters, the old man, and the sheriff opened fire on the Stooges, they fled in a panic. The trio leapt over a bush in desperation and accidentally landed on a group of three bucking steers. The chaotic escape provided classic slapstick comedy as they struggled to stay mounted while continuing to evade their pursuers.

Blackie and Doyle disappeared once the Stooges and their clients headed to the hunting lodge. The conmen had no intention of delivering on any of the memberships they had sold through the Stooges. They abandoned the operation entirely, leaving the Stooges to face the consequences of selling memberships to the police chief and mayor without any actual hunting grounds to offer.

After learning there were no wild ducks at the lodge, Moe and Larry attempted to lure any available ducks into range by throwing rubber decoy ducks onto the pond. The plan was to create the illusion of a successful hunt for their clients, hoping real ducks might be fooled by the fake decoys. This desperate improvisation was part of their attempt to salvage the doomed hunting trip.

The police chief Bud Jamison and the mayor were swayed by the Stooges' bold, bumbling sales pitch delivered directly in their office. The Stooges, dressed in duck-hunting gear and full of confidence, made it seem like an exclusive opportunity. Neither official realized the Canvas Back Duck Club was a fraudulent operation until after they had already purchased memberships.

The Stooges attempted a botched heist to steal a watermelon from deliveryman Cy Schindell, but their clumsy plan immediately fell apart. Their bungled theft attempt drew the attention of a nearby police officer, creating immediate trouble. This initial failure with the law set the chain of events in motion that led them to wander into the Canvas Back Duck Club and get roped into the membership scam.
