Escaping a squad of forest rangers who are conscripting drifters as firefighters, Laurel and Hardy hide in an empty mansion. With the owner away and the staff absent, Hardy pretends to own the house and offers it to an English couple, making Laurel pose as a maid. When the owner returns, the pair flee, are caught by the rangers and forced to fight a raging wildfire.
