Ratan Kumar secretly pocketed the suitcase full of diamonds because he wanted to secure a better future for his family. However, this act of greed ultimately triggered Balram Singh's wrath and set off the chain of events that destroyed Ratan's life, leading to his home being burned and his wife believed to be dead.

Balram Singh burned the house in a fit of rage after discovering that Ratan had stolen the diamonds for himself. This violent act was meant as punishment for Ratan's betrayal, but it inadvertently forced Ratan to flee and completely changed the course of his life.

After escaping the fire, Ratan was found and cared for by Dr. Saigal, who took him to the palace of Maharani Maanwati. The Maharani had recently lost her husband and son, and when she learned that Sunder was Ratan's son, she was soothed and took them in. Ratan adopted the alias Ramesh and began serving the palace.

The Maharani's grief over losing her family creates the initial bond with Ratan and his son.

When Sunder came of age, the Maharani discovered Ramesh's physical resemblance to her late husband. This similarity prompted her to marry him, binding Ramesh even more closely to her and her royal lineage.

When Pushpa resurfaced alive, the Maharani flew into a fury and attempted to kill Ramesh. However, the confrontation ended with the Maharani taking her own life instead. Before dying, she asked Sunder to avenge her death, fueling his later hatred for Ramesh.

Sunder grew up believing Ramesh was responsible for the Maharani's death, as she had asked him to avenge her before dying. This caused Sunder to harbor deep hatred for Ramesh throughout his life, never realizing that Ramesh was actually his biological father.

After being captured by police, Ramesh was tried and sentenced to several years in jail. Upon his release, he returned as a powerful underworld don with one sole objective: to destroy Balram Singh, who had caused all his suffering.

Sunder, now going by the name Shyam, was pursuing Ramesh to avenge the Maharani's death. During this pursuit, he befriended Ravi, who was Ramesh's second son born during Ramesh's years in prison. This connection deepened the complex web of relationships within the family.

When Balram Singh learned that Shyam was pursuing Ramesh, he devised a scheme to use Shyam as a weapon to eliminate Ramesh and his entire family. Balram intended to manipulate Shyam's desire for revenge to do his dirty work.

Shyam eventually learned the truth that Ramesh was his actual biological father and that Ramesh was innocent of the crimes Balram had accused him of. This revelation completely reframed his understanding of the events and his loyalties.

The secret of Ratan's original identity as Ratan Kumar (not Ramesh) was the key to the truth.

After fleeing his burned home and being taken in by the Maharani, Ratan adopted the alias Ramesh to start fresh in his new life at the palace. This name change allowed him to hide his past identity and the crime he committed.

Pushpa survived the house fire that Balram set. Her sudden reappearance years later triggered the Maharani's violent reaction, leading to the chain of events that resulted in the Maharani's suicide and Sunder's subsequent quest for revenge.
