Yudh (1985) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of Yudh (1985), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Savitri Devi, whose twin baby sons are snatched by the notorious criminal Gama Mateen, faces a harsh dilemma as a ransom is demanded to secure their return. Inspector Bhargav rushes to help but is killed in the attempt to save the twins. Gama escapes with one child, while the other remains missing. After Bhargav’s death, Savitri raises Bhargav’s son, Vikram, as her own.

Many years pass, and Vikram has grown into a capable police inspector just like his late father. Savitri’s two children, whom she has not seen since they were babies, have carved out very different paths: a Public Prosecutor named Avinash Rathod and an underworld figure known as Junior, both shaped by the shadowy world Gama Mateen inhabits. Avinash is the closest friend of Vikram, yet a cloud of suspicion hovers over him as a wave of killings hits the city. A witness named Moinuddin Khan identifies Avinash as one of the men involved in a heist, sparking doubt and tension between the friends.

As misunderstandings deepen, the truth begins to surface: Avinash is not guilty of those crimes, and the real mastermind behind the killings is Junior, the twin who was groomed by Gama to be a sharpshooter. Vikram also learns the painful fact that his father was killed by Gama when he was a child, fueling his resolve to avenge him and to reunite Savitri with her two sons. The family’s fragile bond is strained, but a vow to heal the past becomes the engine of the story.

Gama finally abducts Avinash and cages him, bringing him face-to-face with his lookalike, Junior. The two brothers are unaware of their blood tie, believing they merely resemble one another. Gama sends Junior in Avinash’s place to kill Savitri Devi, a mission that tests loyalties and pushes everyone to the edge. When Junior learns that Savitri Devi is his mother, he balks at the act and confronts Gama about sending him to kill his own mother. In a ruthless counter move, Gama orders his goon to finish Junior.

The pursuit intensifies as Vikram and Savitri uncover the truth about Junior’s death and the mistaken belief that Avinash is dead. They soon discover that Avinash is alive and is with Gama. Vikram acts quickly to rescue Avinash, engaging in a tense confrontation with the crime lord. In a climactic turn, as Gama moves to kill Vikram, Savitri shoots and kills him, ending the threat. The film closes on a reconciled family, with Avinash finally reunited with his mother.
