Auggie Pullman is a bright 10-year-old boy living in Brooklyn with his supportive family. He has undergone 27 surgeries due to Treacher Collins Syndrome, a rare facial deformity, allowing him to live a fulfilling life despite his challenges.

After years of being home-schooled, Auggie finally faces the world of middle school at Beecher Prep. He meets Principal Tushman, who welcomes him warmly and introduces him to his new classmates, including Jack, Julian, and Charlotte.

As school begins, Auggie quickly realizes that many students stare and make hurtful jokes about his appearance. Though he suffers in silence, he finds some comfort in Jack, who shows him kindness amidst the cruelty.
