Set against a remote jungle prison in a country tearing itself apart by revolution, the film follows a brutal chain of events that unfold around six young women trapped in a system designed to break them down.
On a truck guarded by the camp commander and the prison physician, Dr. Milton and his accompanying guards, the women arrive under tense scrutiny. Among them are the detainees Karine, Barbara, and Aida, each arrested on suspicion of revolutionary activity. The other three are slated for a different kind of exploitation within the camp, and the tension between capture and coercion quickly tightens its grip on the camp’s walls.
Inside the notorious Cellblock 9, the three detainees are found naked and chained in a standing position, a stark symbol of the control exercised over them. The so‑called interrogation that follows is sustained through various tortures, with the doctors and guards escalating their methods. [Barbara] and [Aida] resist the assaults and remain largely silent, but [Karine] breaks under the pressure, providing information that leads revolutionary forces to denounce the city. The scene is harrowing and unflinching, painting a stark portrait of trauma and endurance under an increasingly oppressive regime.
Into this world of confinement and fear steps a fourth captive, the young Indigenous student known as Marie in the records, here referred to as [Maria]. Allegations of propaganda material found on her lead to a brutal cycle of punishment: three days without food or water confined to a single cell. The cruelty deepens when she is brought to a dinner with the camp’s commander and the doctor, where she endures a coercive exchange that involves sexual acts in return for a small sip of salty Champagne.
As the women in Cellblock 9 begin to form a fragile bond, they devise a plan to reach allies in the capital. They orchestrate a distraction to knock out a guard and grab his rifle, seizing a fleeting moment of control. The escape is costly: [Aida] is killed in a gunfight with another guard, who also dies. The remaining three flee into the jungle, with [Barbara] sustaining a gunshot wound but pressing on.
Their path leads them to an old temple where they momentarily feel a semblance of safety and where they tend to Barbara’s wound by removing the bullet from her shoulder. The trio, now separated from the immediate danger, splits duties—[Karine] and [Maria] search the jungle for food while the others keep watch.
The pursuit resumes as guards track their trail, catching up to them at the temple. In the ensuing confrontation, [Barbara] is killed, leaving [Karine] and [Maria] to face the encroaching danger alone. The camp commander, flanked by his guards and the physician, arrives and confronts them. In a final, desperate bid for freedom, [Karine] attempts to seize the commander’s pistol. When the pistol won’t fire, the commander orders the guards to open fire, ending the lives of the last two prisoners and leaving their bodies to be desecrated as the film closes.
The film maintains a cool, unflinching tone throughout, presenting a stark meditation on power, resistance, and the high cost of political upheaval. Its unvarnished portrayal of brutality, trauma, and survival lingers long after the screen goes dark, leaving viewers to reflect on the moral complexities of revolution and the human price paid by those caught in its wake.
