Deep in a quiet rural village, a poignant reveal kicks off a comedy of compounding obligations: Yogesh Patel—the youngest grandson—receives a card from his aging grandfather, setting a chain of expectations in motion. In Mumbai, the family consults an astrologer to see if their eldest son, Jitu Patel, will end up in trouble, and to glean Yogesh’s future from his birthdate. The astrologer delivers a curious forecast: if Yogesh marries on the 20th of the month, he will inherit a fortune, a turn of fate sealed by a phone call confirming that the grandfather has named him the sole heir. The tone is matter-of-fact, but the implications ripple through two continents and into the lives of everyone involved.
Yogesh, a successful professional living in Chicago, is soon drawn into a gust of family crisis. A text from [Jitu] Patel announces that their father Bharat has had a heart attack, forcing a hurried return to Mumbai. The truth emerges with blunt clarity: Jitu lied about Bharat’s condition, and he owes a powerful gambler a staggering sum—25 million rupees. If Yogesh does not marry soon, Jitu faces a prison sentence. Even more pressure surfaces when Jitu admits borrowing 15 million from a mob boss, a debt his parents are unaware of. The stakes escalate quickly, and though Yogesh initially resists, the gangster’s threats compel him to agree to a marriage that could resolve the mounting debts and keep the family afloat.
Behind the scenes, Devu—Yogesh’s uncle—steers the practical side of the plan. He posts a matrimonial advertisement featuring Yogesh, and the response is overwhelming: 176 girls answer the ad. It’s a kaleidoscope of possibilities, and Yogesh decides to meet one woman from each zodiac sign, turning the search into a game of chance and connection. Meanwhile, Devu’s wife Kanta grows suspicious of his fidelity and hires a detective to uncover the truth. The case lands on a surprising target: Devu’s alleged mistress is Anila Kamdar, a revelation that tugs at the family’s fragile balance and frames the rest of the tale within a web of suspicion and competing loyalties.
As the matrimonial tour progresses, one encounter stands out. Sanjana, a bright and compassionate candidate, asks to talk privately with Yogesh. She explains that a would-be groom has already promised to marry her, but she’s not ready to rush. Moved by Yogesh’s willingness to help her despite his own pressing problems, she embraces him in a moment of genuine warmth. It’s a pivotal scene, one that shifts the momentum away from pure obligation toward something closer to mutual care. Devu, believing his privacy has been invaded, walks in, and the detective’s attention becomes a tangled thread: he has seen Devu with Anila, and now he observes him with Sanjana. The detective’s notes become fuel for a rumor mill that threatens to tear the family apart.
The tension escalates as the detective convinces Yogesh and his father that Devu is having an affair with Sanjana. Anila, too, appears downstairs, and Yogesh shows her the photographs, insisting that Devu and Sanjana traveled to Khandala. The family’s suspicions crystallize into conflicting narratives: Devu fears betrayal by Yogesh, while Yogesh suspects Devu’s involvement with Sanjana. The atmosphere thickens with misinterpretation, crossed wires, and the unspoken fear that money and love are both at stake.
In the face of this pressure, Yogesh’s mother, Shakuntala, pleads for him to choose with his heart rather than out of fear or debt. A dream-filled night follows, in which all the potential brides appear in his mind, each representing a different life. By morning, Yogesh reaches a decision about whom to marry and heads to Rajni’s office to see if the match can be finalized on his terms. He discovers Rajni is not the one—she is already set to marry someone else, a reminder that destiny isn’t easily bent to a single plan.
Meanwhile, Devu reveals a more personal strategy: he intends to keep the bride a secret until the ceremony, sowing the element of surprise into the arrangement. When the moment arrives, Yogesh stands at the threshold of the bride’s entry and cannot tell who she is. The ceremony proceeds, and Devu welcomes the bride’s father, Sanjana’s father, into the fold. Then, a striking twist unfolds: the grandfather’s funds arrive to settle Jitu’s debts, and Devu explains the sequence of events that led to this outcome. He had followed Sanjana after she confronted him with a photograph of her boyfriend and confronted the boyfriend himself, linking that moment to Sanjana’s realization that she loves Yogesh. The pieced-together plan culminates in a logical, if unconventional, resolution: Sanjana chooses Yogesh, and the union is sealed.
The film closes on a hopeful note: the row of questions about astrology, dowries, and debts gives way to a shared future. Sanjana, amid the wedding-day bustle, asks about her raashee, and Yogesh, with a gentle smile, admits he does not know, signaling that their path forward will be written by their own choices more than by fate or fortune. In the end, the ring is slipped on, the debts are settled, and a new chapter begins for Sanjana and Yogesh, a union born of compromise, trust, and the oddest combination of luck and love.
