The film centers on Arman Ali, a Muslim driver in Mumbai who takes a one-month leave from his job to find a groom for his daughter Muskan Ali, who lives in a village near Hyderabad. When he does not return for three months, his employer faces a tough decision and eventually sacks him. Yet he agrees to hear Arman’s side of the story, and, moved by what he hears, briefly allows him to continue—even sending him on a trip toward Pune for a meeting—so the tale can unfold from that point.
Back in Arman’s village, life is strained by a severe drought and mounting financial trouble, largely tied to the mischief of his twin brother, whose reputation for debt and theft shadows the family. In the opening scene, a man named Arif Ali presses Arman for 500 rupees. Eventually, Muskan Ali pays the debt to Arif, and Arman’s brother is arrested and later released, setting off a chain of consequences that push the family to confront their hardships.
To address the drought, Arman tries to secure a government-built well, enlisting a friend and navigating the bureaucratic process—explaining his needs, filling out forms, and even posing for a photo for official records. Meanwhile, Muskan Ali begins to fall in love with Arif Ali, a development Arman initially resists but gradually comes to accept as a possible solution to their shared woes.
Yet the well remains elusive, leaving Arman frustrated and hopeful in equal measure. He and Muskan attempt to report the missing well to the local police inspector, only to be met with disbelief and stubborn skepticism. Frustration boils over into a protest, with villagers rallying against the inspector and demanding action, eventually drawing the attention of the justice minister. The minister rebukes the inspector for lax conduct, and the inspector, realizing his mistakes, begins to engage with the people in a more open and considerate manner. The minister also pushes the government to proceed with building the well and disciplines those who neglected their duties.
With the drought finally addressed, Arman contemplates a new arrangement for Muskan Ali—an alliance with an Arab sheikh. Muskan resists her father’s suggestion, sparking a tense argument. A letter from her friend Sakina reveals the grim reality of abuse she suffered at the hands of her sheikh husband, shocking Arman and Sakina’s mother and prompting a shift in Arman’s plans. After weighing the troubling revelations, Arman decides that Muskan Ali should marry Arif Ali, a choice that brings a sense of relief to many and seems to resolve several family pressures.
The narrative culminates at an awards ceremony, which Arman describes as a “big drama” from his perspective, especially as the stage literally collapses to the crowd’s delight. Seeing the positive turn of events and the renewed stability in his life, Arman’s employer reconsiders, and he is welcomed back to work, marking a hopeful end where the intertwined problems—drought, debt, and difficult choices about marriage—have found a path forward.
