Dr. R.J. “Roscoe” Stevens, better known as Roscoe Jenkins, is a prominent talk-show host who enjoys a massive fan base while having left behind his awkward Southern origins. He is set to marry Survivor champion Bianca Kittles. However, when Roscoe reluctantly takes Bianca and their 10-year-old son, Jamaal, back to his quiet Southern hometown to celebrate his parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, he’s determined to demonstrate that he’s shed his past as a family outcast.

Upon arriving in Georgia, Roscoe encounters his cousin Reggie, a pickpocket, along with his girlfriend Amy. He is welcomed back by his boisterous family: his parents Roscoe Sr. and Mama Jenkins, his sheriff brother Otis, Otis’ wife Ruthie, their rambunctious kids Junior and Callie, and his wild sister Betty. The unexpected arrival of cousin Clyde rekindles a longstanding rivalry, and the presence of Lucinda, an old flame, complicates matters further. Despite nearly a decade of success away from home, Roscoe’s attempts to impress his family with his wealth and accomplishments quickly backfire, exposing the insecurities hidden beneath his glamorous facade.

As events unfold, Roscoe endures a string of embarrassing incidents: he inadvertently hits his mother with a softball during a game, finds himself beaten up by Otis and Betty after a thoughtless comment, faces relentless blackmail from Reggie, ruins the family fish fry with a brawl, and is doused by a skunk while sleeping. Strained relationships between Roscoe and his father are brought to light, revealing a deep-seated resentment stemming from his father’s favoritism towards Clyde. Meanwhile, Bianca struggles to fit in with the Jenkins family, creating additional tension.

During the anniversary celebration, a traditional obstacle course brings the family together in a chaotic showdown between Roscoe and Clyde. He returns home to the Jenkins family, bringing along a Pomeranian named Fifi, who had developed a bond with the family’s aging Labrador, Bucky.

During the heartfelt anniversary celebration, Clyde expresses his affection for the Jenkins family, revealing how much their support has meant to him. Inspired by the love surrounding him, Roscoe acknowledges his own feelings and extends an olive branch to his father.
