The crew of electricians arrives to cut the power in a condemned building and quickly notices the floor plans don't match the actual space. They pry open a door and uncover an old laboratory housing an antique atomic pile powering a mysterious device. An alarm triggers and the device boots up, unleashing a sequence of events that jars the group.

Dean slips through the dimensional portal that appears with the device. Junior rushes after him into the unknown. Ray and Shelly pore over a journal left by the scientists, learning that they attempted to forge a gateway to a parallel universe.

On the other side, Junior bursts from a broken security van with a stash of money, relief and confusion flooding him. The group on the far side encounters a swarm of spider-like beings and scrambles to defend themselves. Dean begins to explore the ruined city while Junior waits with the others.

The spider creatures overwhelm the area, and a small group of humans fights to hold their ground against the oncoming assault. The survivors manage to push back some of the creatures, but the threat remains and the battle continues. The fear and confusion escalate as more of the webbed invaders press toward the shelter.

In the unsafe corridor between worlds, the survivors race toward safety and aim for the portal to return home. Dean pauses to help a wounded survivor, delaying the group and causing the portal to shut, trapping him on the far side. The others reach the edge and watch as the gateway seals itself.

Dean is brought to a hidden shelter where a small group of survivors has found refuge. A female survivor, Elayna, urges him to meet the enigmatic 'Old Man', and they blindfold him as they lead toward the refuge. Ray returns later with news that many suspect him to be mad but carries a small arsenal.

Inside the refuge, the Old Man is revealed to be Dr. Richard Morelli, the portal's inventor who was stranded decades earlier. He explains that when the gateway opened, a dark force—giant Spider Queens—slipped through and began invading this world. Venom from the Queens twists and enslaves people, forcing survivors to guide camps and create empty, bloodstained outposts.

Shelly and Ray join the group as Morelli lays out a plan to reconstruct a new gateway. The survivors work on the gateway, gathering components and testing the interface while keeping watch for Queen-led incursions. The Queen herself appears to be watching from the shadows, adding urgency to the preparations.

Above the city ruins, lookout teams observe the 'soldiers' moving through the buildings and warn the group to brace for another clash. Dean and Ray split their duties to defend Shelly and Morelli while they continue the gateway redesign. Tension mounts as the resistance prepares for a decisive confrontation.

During a rescue toward the lab's inner chambers, Shelly is bitten by venom and fights to hold back the Queen's forces. He slips into a heroic delirium and becomes a loyal sentinel under the Queen's influence, while Crane fights through the assault and dies in Morelli's arms. Morelli himself is killed by the Queen as the group struggles to pull back to safety.

Shelly returns to the lab and shuts down the power to end the gateway, knowing it may seal their fate. Dean races to reach him and, in a desperate act, shoots Shelly to prevent more souls from being dragged through. The last connection is made as the Queen materializes; she is drawn into the current and electrocuted, and the gateway surges open.

Dean and Elayna awaken on a sunlit beach, sharing a kiss as a colossal shadow of a giant flying creature looms overhead. It remains unclear whether they are in a new world or a distant edge of their Earth, leaving the fate of both worlds unresolved. The ordeal leaves them forever altered, a chilling odyssey between science and nightmare.
