About eight years prior to the current events, a catastrophic zombie apocalypse occurred, turning much of humanity into the Undead. This devastating event led to chaos and destruction, reshaping the world and establishing a dangerous environment where the remaining humans must navigate the threats posed by zombies.

The story unfolds in an airport where R, a zombie, spends his days aimlessly wandering. Alongside his best friend M, R engages in primitive communication, struggling with an insatiable hunger for human flesh while reliving memories of his past victims in a bid to feel a connection to life.

During a food hunt, R and M come across Julie Grigio and her friends, who are on a mission to gather medical supplies as instructed by Julie's father, Colonel Grigio. This unexpected meeting sparks R's deep infatuation with Julie, marking the beginning of a significant transformation in his character.

In a chaotic encounter, R kills Julie's boyfriend, Perry, after being shot by him. Consuming Perry's brain deepens R's feelings for Julie, which complicates his already turbulent emotions as he grapples with the consequences of his actions.

To protect Julie from other zombies, R cleverly disguises her scent using zombie blood and takes her to his makeshift home inside a deserted airplane. This act of protection marks a pivotal turning point in their relationship as they start to connect on a deeper level.

At first, Julie is frightened of R and unsure of his intentions. However, as he aids her during a perilous escape attempt, they gradually grow closer, bonding over music and games which spark a revival of R's humanity.

Feeling restless, Julie decides to return home, which inadvertently attracts a horde of zombies. R finds himself forced to confront the truth of his actions when Julie flees back to safety, crestfallen as he realizes his part in Perry's death.

After Julie's departure, R returns to the airport, only to notice that he and M, along with other zombies, are beginning to experience a revival of their past humanity. This transformation hints at the possibility of change amid the bleakness of their existence.

R, along with a group of zombies, bravely ventures to the fortified human enclave in search of Julie and her friend Nora. Upon arrival, R encounters pushback, but soon reveals the remarkable evolution occurring among the undead.

Colonel Grigio remains highly skeptical of R and views him as a threat to his daughter and the human race. Tensions escalate as Nora attempts to defend R, drawing a weapon against Grigio to protect the newfound connections they've formed.

Amidst the growing conflict, R and Julie escape to a baseball stadium, only to face a relentless attack from Boneys. This dire situation tests their bond as they fight for survival against overwhelming odds.

To evade capture from the Boneys, R and Julie leap into a nearby pool. In a courageous act, R protects Julie's fall with his own body, solidifying his emerging protective instincts and commitment to her safety.

As Julie pulls R from the pool, they share a kiss, strengthening their emotional connection. Suddenly, Colonel Grigio appears, shooting R, leading to a revelation that he has fully transformed back into a human.

In a climactic showdown, humans and zombies unite to battle the Boneys, resulting in a fierce and explosive conflict. The alliance marks a significant moment in their struggle for survival and the possibility of coexistence.

The film culminates in a hopeful climax where R and Julie, now transformed, stand hand in hand as they witness the wall around the city being demolished. This act symbolizes a new beginning for both humans and zombies in a world that was once filled with despair.
