Raghuvaran is a civil engineering graduate who has been unemployed for four years and refuses to take any job outside his field. He remains stubborn about pursuing a career in civil engineering, even as money and opportunities pass him by. This stance triggers repeated clashes with his father, Krishnamoorthy, who views him as irresponsible.

Raghuvaran falls for his neighbor's daughter, Shalini. She hates him at first, shaped by his obstinacy and pride. However, after learning about the difficulties Raghuvaran endures, she softens and eventually accepts his love.

With his mother ill, Raghuvaran is asked to stay home, but he goes out on a date with Shalini. He ignores his mother's repeated calls, despite Shalini urging him to pick up. Returning home, he discovers his mother has died of a heart attack, triggering guilt that changes his life.

The sudden loss devastates Raghuvaran and he sinks into guilt and depression, fixated on the idea that he failed his mother when she needed him most. The tragedy strains the family dynamic and compounds his existing stubborn resolve. He struggles to cope with the loss while maintaining his personal ideals.

Bhuvana's lungs are transplanted into Anitha, giving the chain-smoker a new chance at life. The operation underscores the ripple effects of Raghuvaran's family tragedy. Anitha's father Ramkumar, chairman of a Chennai civil engineering company, expresses his gratitude by offering Raghuvaran a job.

Raghuvaran accepts Ramkumar's job offer, hoping to stay within his field. He also asks Anitha not to smoke, and she agrees, marking a new professional and personal pivot. This marks his first step into the working world after the personal losses.

Six months later, Raghuvaran is assigned to a government project to construct high-rise flats for re-housing people from a nearby slum. Azhagusundaram and Manickam are appointed as his assistants to support the project. Raghuvaran immediately begins work on the government contract.

Arun Subramaniam, a business novice who took over his father's Chennai branch, bids for the land using illegal methods and tries to derail Raghuvaran's progress. Raghuvaran maintains focus, skillfully navigating the competition and securing the contract.

When Raghuvaran's workers push ahead, Arun hires rowdies to beat them, leaving several injured and hospitalized. Raghuvaran refuses to back down and continues to push the project forward despite threats. The conflict escalates into a corporate-criminal showdown.

Raghuvaran confronts Arun at his office, and a hidden microspy camera records Arun admitting to orchestrating the violence. He uses this evidence to demand a public apology and to protect the workers and the project.

Arun's father Venkat intervenes and has Arun sent to the hospital to apologize to Raghuvaran. Raghuvaran agrees to accept the apology, choosing to move on and allow the project to continue toward completion. The ten-month timeline remains intact.

With the hurdles cleared, the government project nears completion and the team prepares for inauguration. Raghuvaran's leadership and perseverance are highlighted as the flats near readiness for occupancy. The project represents a clear turnaround from the initial delays caused by the rival.

On the day of the flats' inauguration, Arun and his gang ambush Raghuvaran en route to the site. Raghuvaran outwits them and spares Arun, expressing a wish to be friends rather than rivals. He leads Arun to the site as the state public works minister and Anitha inaugurate the project.
