Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam

Police arrive at Sivanandi’s house, questioning him about the killing of his daughter, Lathapandi, who ran away with the man she loved. At the center of the tale are two friends, Bosepandi and Kodi, who lead the village group known as the Varuthapadadha Valibar Sangam. When [Bosepandi] falls for Kalyani, a dedicated teacher at a local school, he writes a heartfelt love letter and seeks someone to deliver it, only to cross paths with [Lathapandi], who passes the note to Kalyani and unintentionally steers Bosepandi toward a cascade of misunderstandings.

Sivanandi tries to fix a marriage for [Lathapandi], but she is young and eager to continue her studies. Despite her protests, the pressure to wed builds, and the wedding is announced on a billboard. In response, [Bosepandi] and [Kodi] rally their group to block the arrangement, even going to the police and threatening the commissioner. The authorities intervene, and after a tense conversation, Sivanandi is persuaded to pause the union. The altercation reveals the power they wield in the village, and the stakes become personal for everyone involved.

Some time later, [Bosepandi] learns that [Kalyani] is preparing to marry someone else. He tries to step back and organize a Dindigul program to mark his own path, but fate keeps drawing him back. During a visit, he spots [Lathapandi] in a sari and feels his affection rekindled in an instant. That same night, the police inform Sivanandi that it was Bosepandi who disrupted Lathapandi’s marriage, a revelation that thickens the emotional web surrounding the two families.

Driven by love, [Bosepandi] confesses his feelings to [Lathapandi], who rebuffs him. Undeterred, Bosepandi wanders away, his mood broken, while a gang suddenly ambushes him—only to reveal itself as belonging to Sivanandi’s faction. In a daring move to seize leverage, Bosepandi and [Kodi] steal what Sivanandi considers his “soul” — his gun — and flee, triggering a fresh round of trouble for everyone. After the dust settles, Bosepandi promises to return the gun if Lathapandi will join him at a friend’s wedding, and he manages to return it discreetly, with no one the wiser.

Lathapandi later attends that wedding and appears in photographs with Bosepandi, despite her mother’s warnings that this path is risky. The village note of a quiet bond between the lovers continues to grow as a test of loyalty and risk. One night, Sivanandi’s cow falls into a well, and Bosepandi helps retrieve it, an act of mercy that softens the strain between families. That night, the couple stay at Lathapandi’s home and witness Sivanandi sleepwalking; the next morning, he wakes and, upon learning of Bosepandi’s affection for his daughter, Bosepandi runs from the scene, fearing the consequences of his confession.

As the tension reaches a peak, Sivanandi arranges a marriage for Lathapandi with the man he has chosen, and she agrees to go through with it. Yet on the eve of the wedding, the young woman makes a bold move and runs away with Bosepandi. Sivanandi, choosing a complicated balance of respect and duty, urges them to flee and even lends them money, ensuring they don’t return to face shame or retaliation. He watches them marry and settle on a hillside, a quiet victory that sits alongside a complex respect for tradition.

From that point forward, Sivanandi visits the couple regularly, and the story shifts toward a new reality: Lathapandi is pregnant, and the path ahead will be different for everyone. The pair eventually return to their village, where Bosepandi’s father has offered more money than Sivanandi ever did, adding another layer of motive and tension to the ending. The film closes on a note of shared laughter and relief, as two families and a community find a way to accept love’s unpredictability and the resilience of those who choose to follow their hearts.
