Vetrivel was framed by the DGP himself during the governor's visit to Tanjore. When CBCID warned about an assassination attempt, Vetrivel, due to his IPS training and sharpshooting skills, was assigned to protect the governor. However, during the meeting, the governor was killed, and the DGP used the opportunity to pin the murder on Vetrivel, turning the hero into a fugitive.

Earlier, Vetrivel's successful career and confrontations with Naachiyaar had made him a threat to powerful figures in the system.

After being framed for the governor's murder, Vetrivel (who was once a highly accomplished district collector) had to go into hiding. He abandoned his position and lived under the alias Singamuthu, working as a temporary driver for Annamalai Transports in Rishikesh to survive while evading capture.

The feud began when Naachiyaar's son abducted the sister of one of Vetrivel's friends, who was engaged to another man, and attempted to assault her.
