Maya and Jamie’s story takes a dark turn as they face increasingly supernatural and deadly threats from the local folklore in Ireland. After a series of violent encounters, Maya finds herself rescued by the Redcaps, mischievous goblin-like creatures who have traditionally protected their territory. During her search for her missing dog and her encounter with Eoin, Maya is pushed into a confrontation with the Whelan family, who are revealed to be heavily involved in the local myth. The Whelans, especially Daddy Whelan, seem to be using the folklore for their own sinister purposes, attempting to trap Jamie and Maya and cover up their crimes.

Maya’s claim that she saw her neighbor Eoin’s head, given to her by the Redcaps, initially seems unbelievable to Jamie, especially as Eoin’s corpse vanishes when they try to find it again, revealing the blurred lines between myth and reality. As the situation spirals out of control, Maya’s desperation drives her to seek help from the Redcaps once more, risking everything. In a final act of defiance, Maya boldly confronts the mysterious old woman, who turns out to be Maeve’s daughter, the true leader of the Redcaps. When Maya fights her to reclaim her baby, she kills the old woman and becomes anointed as the new Queen of the Redcaps.

The film’s ending shows Maya returning home with her child, now transformed into a supernatural being, symbolizing her complete transformation from a vulnerable mother to a powerful, feared figure in this dark folk world. Jamie, proud yet bewildered, watches as Maya accepts her new role, fully embracing her dark power. The story concludes with the understanding that Maya’s life will never be the same — she has seized control over her destiny at the cost of her humanity, and her bond with the folklore creatures has made her not just a survivor but a formidable leader in this eerie, mythic landscape.
