Two Thousand Maniacs!

Rufus and Lester lure six young tourists into the rural town of Pleasant Valley using detour signs. Upon arrival they are warmly welcomed by the townsfolk, including Mayor Buckman, who promises them a weekend as guests of honor for the centennial celebration. The tourists agree to participate, trusting that the town will provide hotel rooms, free food and entertainment.

Bea Miller is invited to walk with local store owner Harper. In the woods, Harper suddenly pulls a knife and cuts off one of her fingers. Buckman, Rufus, and Lester subdue Bea and Rufus hacks off her arm with an axe, killing her.

During the centennial barbecue that night, Bea's severed arm is being spit roasted as a grim secret hidden from the other guests. The festivities continue while the tourists remain unaware of the murder that just occurred. Tom and Terry begin to sense that something is deeply wrong with Pleasant Valley.

Tom White and Terry Adams slip away from the crowd and discover a plaque in the woods describing a massacre of Pleasant Valley residents by renegade Union soldiers in 1865. They realize the centennial is an act of revenge for the town's destruction a hundred years earlier. They conclude that they and the other tourists are the intended victims.

Buckman, Rufus, and Lester spot Tom and Terry and give chase through the town. The couple manages to escape into the surrounding areas, narrowly staying ahead of their pursuers.

Betsy tries to entrap Bea's husband John by getting him drunk on moonshine while Harper escorts the couple back to the hotel. The townspeople surround John and tie his arms and legs to four horses that are sent running in different directions, tearing him apart.

The next morning Betsy leads David to a gathering on a hill near the lake. Rufus and another man force David into a barrel, Mayor Buckman hammers nails into the barrel, and they roll it down the hill, killing David.

Later, Lester brings Beverly Wells to the town square to be the judge for the next attraction. Beverly is forcibly tied to a platform and the crowd takes turns throwing rocks at a target until a released boulder crushes her to death.

Tom and Terry attempt to sneak out again but Harper sees them and gives chase. They run through a swamp where Harper gets stuck in quicksand and apparently sinks to his death.

Tom and Terry finally locate their car and escape Pleasant Valley, driving away as Buckman declares the centennial a success and the celebration over.

Tom and Terry make it to a police station and tell the sheriff about the horrors they witnessed in Pleasant Valley, hoping for help to stop the massacre.

The couple returns to Pleasant Valley with the police chief, only to find the town has mysteriously vanished. A local rumor suggests the vengeful spirits of those killed in 1865 still haunt the area. The film ends with the ghosts of Rufus, Lester and Harper heading toward the woods, hinting at a future centennial in 2065.
