Adapted in 1957 from Ion Luca Caragiale’s 1901 novella “Două loturi”, screenplay by director Jean Georgescu. The film, Romania’s second colour feature, was directed by graduates Aurel Miheleş and Gheorghe Naghi. Though a box‑office hit, critics faulted its inexperienced direction. They later made two more Caragiale adaptations, and “Telegrame” was nominated for the Cannes Palme d’Or in 1960.
