Seventeen-year-old Isabella "Bella" Swan (Kristen Stewart) relocates from sunny Phoenix to the chilly town of Forks, Washington, to live with her father, Charlie (Billy Burke). This move comes after her mother, Renee Dwyer (Sarah Clarke), remarries a minor league baseball player. Forks, a town with a population of only 3,120, is famed for its rain and cloud cover, leading Bella to recall her past summer visits fondly. Although Charlie gives Bella considerable freedom, their modest home is cramped, featuring just a single bathroom.
Despite her reserved nature, Bella is a romantic who longs for a deep connection, wishing to feel as though her life would be given meaning through love. Nearby, dark mysteries unfold in the dense forests, hinting at something supernatural when a shadowy figure is seen hunting a deer.
