A village girl moves to Tokyo and turns to prostitution to fund her ailing mother’s care. She falls for a man who claims to be an unmarried teacher, but discovers he is married to a woman whose child is not his. He returns to his wife, and she learns her uncle has squandered the money she sent. After her mother dies, she falls ill.
