Jim Hawkins runs the Benbow Inn when pirate Captain Billy Bones collapses there, chased by buccaneers led by Blind Pew. Jim and his mother fend off the attackers, find Billy’s map and join Dr. Livesey with the Hispaniola crew to hunt the island treasure. Long John Silver sparks a mutiny, but Jim helps loyal officers resist and protect the prize.

Captain Bones, an elderly pirate, arrives at the Admiral Benbow inn and takes lodgings with Jim Hawkins and his widowed mother. He keeps watch for a one-legged man and becomes a dangerous nuisance to the inn's guests.

Black Dog confronts Bones and the inn is shaken

The pirate Black Dog appears and duels Bones, retreating after a sword fight. Bones begins to suffer a cardiac arrest, and before Jim can help him, Blind Pew arrives, gives Bones the Black Spot, and leaves. Bones dies after handing Jim the key to his chest.

Mrs. Hawkins and Jim search Bones's chest for rent and papers. Jim takes a packet of papers while Pew and Black Dog return with more pirates. Dr. Livesey and his men arrive and scatter the attackers, killing Pew. Livesey and Jim take the papers to Squire Trelawney; one paper contains Captain Flint's map to a buried treasure.
