One night she discovers Sally murdered, Sally's bed soaked with blood. The scene confirms that escape will not be easy and that Tony's reach is deadly.

She flees in the stolen police car to a rural fishing village, triggering a spree of reckless and fatal car crashes along the way. The pursuit tightens as Tony and the authorities close in.

In the countryside, Tony approaches with feigned sympathy, but Madeleine triggers a booby trap and shoots him in the knees. She binds him, drags him to a meadow, and buries his body under stones with only his head exposed, then ties a rope to a horse and watches as he dies. Finally, she drives away in the police car.
