Three Monkeys

Servet, a wealthy businessman, drives on a wet night and struggles to keep his eyes open. He hits and kills a pedestrian in the middle of the road, and a passing car containing a couple stops briefly before driving away in panic.

Servet asks Eyüp to take responsibility and serve the resulting prison sentence in exchange for a lump sum and salary for his family while he is jailed. Eyüp agrees, believing the sentence will be only 6-12 months, and that this will spare Servet's political career.

Time passes and summer arrives. Eyüp and his family, living near the railroad tracks in Yedikule, face financial and social strain. Eyüp's son İsmail fails his college entrance exam again, and his mother Hacer worries about his dubious acquaintances and injuries from fighting. İsmail suggests driving children between home and school as a potential income, but they can't afford a car.

Hacer goes to Servet to request the promised money and meets him in his office. Although the election result has not been favorable to him, Servet persuades her to accept a ride back to her home instead of an upfront payment. She reluctantly agrees to the lift, hoping it will help her family.

İsmail learns that his mother is having an affair with Servet and confronts her about it. He does not tell his father, choosing to keep the information to himself for now. This revelation adds tension to the already strained household.

Eyüp serves nine months in prison and is released. He returns home to a place where things feel a little peculiar as secrets begin to surface and family dynamics shift.

Back home, Eyüp senses the strain when he discovers that Hacer is still in love with Servet and wants to continue the affair, while Servet refuses to pursue it any further. The couple's fragile balance starts to crack under the tension.

That night, Hacer and Eyüp are summoned to the police station and told that Servet has been murdered. During the interrogation, Eyüp learns that Hacer was cheating on him, and he denies any knowledge of the crime.

İsmail confesses to his mother that he murdered Servet, revealing the deadly turn of events and the immense consequences that haunt the family.

Eyüp calms himself by visiting a mosque, seeking guidance and a sense of resolution amid the unraveling family crisis. The quiet ritual offers a brief respite from the surrounding turmoil.

Eyüp encounters Bayram, a very poor man who works and sleeps inside a tea house, and tests the same option Servet offered him: to take the blame for the crime. The encounter underscores how desperation can drive the hand of justice.

In a final echo of Servet's offer, Eyüp proposes to Bayram that he should claim the crime for himself, thus protecting his son's future at the cost of Bayram's own moral and legal standing. The moral weight of the decision hangs heavy as the cycle of sacrifice continues.
