Italian painter Antonio Berti travels to Reims to visit his friend Robert Maurisson, a banker respected for his civic involvement but secretly libertine and cynical. Commissioned to restore cathedral paintings, Berti asks a choirgirl, Cathy, to pose for him. Hours later Cathy is found dead near one of Robert’s properties, sparking scandal.
