The Victim

Chun-yau is adopted by a humble rich man on a rainy night, shaping his early life as a skilled kung fu fighter. He grows up under the shadow of his adoptive father's stern son, Cho-wing, who carries a growing resentment. The fragile balance of family and ambition sets the tone for the conflict to come.

Cho-wing blames Chun-yau for the loss of his eye and nurses a passionate vendetta. He vows to hunt down Chun-yau and his wife, projecting his anger onto the couple's future. The feud is now personal and deadly.

Chun-yau and his newly-wedded wife Yuet-yee flee together, trying to stay one step ahead of Cho-wing's pursuing gang. Their precarious flight forces them to keep moving and to hide their presence from the world. The danger of Cho-wing's pursuit looms over every decision they make.

Fatty spots Chun-yau helping an old man avoid a cart crush and challenges him. Chun-yau defeats Fatty but refuses to become his master, preferring to keep a low profile. Fatty vows to learn kung fu by training under the man who beat him, hoping this will fulfill his ancestral promise.

Chun-yau and Yuet-yee go to pay respects to his ill-struck adoptive father. Cho-wing's men ambush Chun-yau in the room, turning the moment into a trap. Fatty arrives in time to help defend them, striking back at the attackers.

Yuet-yee begs Cho-wing to stop the violence and agrees to leave Chun-yau. She confesses she cannot endure life on the run and decides to stay with Cho-wing, breaking Chun-yau's heart.

Overwhelmed by the circumstances, Yuet-yee commits suicide rather than submit to Cho-wing's control. Chun-yau is left shattered, grappling with the loss of his wife and his forced isolation.

Chun-yau steals his wife's body to lay her to rest, then begins training Fatty in the Iron Cross kung fu style passed down by his stepfather. The grief-laden start of training marks a turning point in his life and in their bond.

During a training session, Fatty spots a gang member watching them and asks his sifu for a knife to deal with him. Instead of killing the watcher, Fatty stabs him, claiming that the man was a victim too. The act reveals Fatty's complicated loyalties and foreshadows tragedy.

Fatty returns with money and his mother hostage after tricking his teacher. They concoct a plan to stage Chun-yau's death, hoping to secure Fatty's mother's release. The ruse is discovered when gang members stab Fatty and his mother as they try to escape.

A final duel begins with a hired expert in Southern Eagle Claw, whom Chun-yau defeats. He then faces Cho-wing in a brutal street fight and defeats him by hurling him into a building's support column, killing him.

Chun-yau pays respects at the graves of his wife and his student Fatty. A beggar who looks a lot like Fatty appears; when Chun-yau realizes the resemblance, he runs after the mysterious figure.
