The Paramedic

Ángel displays controlling, unsympathetic behavior from the start. He belittles patients and exercises possessive authority over Vane at home. He blames Vane for their infertility and keeps the results of a fertility test to himself.

During their attempts to conceive, Ángel undergoes a fertility test and learns he has a low sperm count, but he doesn't tell Vane. He internalizes the problem and his insecurity grows. This secret fuels his growing paranoia.

While driving an injured patient to the hospital, the ambulance crashes and Ángel is left paralyzed from the waist down, confined to a wheelchair. He blames Ricardo for the accident and cannot forgive him. The incident marks a turning point in his relationship with Vane.

In the wake of his disability, Ángel's paranoia grows. He suspects Vane of infidelity and installs spyware on her phone to monitor her. He becomes increasingly controlling as she works nights.

The spyware catches a conversation in which Vane's friend warns that Ángel is abusive and urges her to leave. This confirms Ángel's abusive behavior in his own mind and intensifies his sense of entitlement over her.

When Vane returns, Ángel is outwardly apologetic after dinner. They try to have sex, but Ángel cannot feel anything due to his paralysis. Disgusted, Vane packs her things and leaves for good.

Several months pass and Ángel continues to stalk Vane. He discovers that she has begun a new relationship with Ricardo and becomes increasingly obsessed with controlling her life. The fixation intensifies his volatility.

Ángel notices Vane and Ricardo shopping for baby items and realizes she is pregnant with Ricardo's child. He confronts her in the street, claiming he has boxed up her possessions and asks if she wants to collect them.

They go to the apartment, and Ángel injects Vane to immobilize her. He ties her to a bed, uses her phone to send a cruel message to Ricardo, and presents a stolen engagement ring as if they were engaged. He speaks of a future they will share, despite her resistance.

Vane's elderly neighbour hears her scream and threatens to call the police; Ángel stabs him to death and pays a fence to dispose of the body. He then goes to Ricardo's house and murders him, removing any witness to Vane's fate.

A few days later, the police arrive to investigate Ricardo's death and Vane's disappearance. Ángel maintains a calm front, persuading authorities that he knows nothing about what happened. The investigation tightens the net around his alibis.

Vane manages to break free while Ángel is away and drags herself down the building stairs with limited mobility. On the landing, Ángel interrupts the escape; they struggle and she stabs him with a screwdriver, causing him to fall several flights down the stairwell.

In the hospital, Ángel lies paralyzed and unable to speak, breathing through a tube. Vane arrives, fully recovered and pregnant, and declares she will now take care of him. She wheels him out of the hospital with a sinister smile, leaving his fate unresolved.
