The Jungle

Princess Sati returns to India to act as regent for her father at the council's request. The ministers inform her that several villages have been destroyed by stampeding elephants. She steels herself to stop the attacks.

The council outlines the scale of devastation and assigns Rama Singh the task of halting the elephant stampedes. They expect swift action and leadership from Sita in this crisis.

Rama Singh hires renowned hunter Steve Bentley to lead the counter-effort. He brings ten hunters into the jungle, but only Bentley survives to tell the tale.

Bentley claims the stampedes are caused by mammoths, not hunger or panic. His assertion shifts the investigation toward a prehistoric culprit rather than conventional attack.

Singh is haunted by guilt because one of the ten hunters killed was his younger brother. This tragedy weighs on him as the mission continues.

After another raid, Sita decides that she and Singh will pursue the elephants to stop the attacks. Bentley wants to join to salvage his reputation and brings grenades.

Sita's young servant Babu tags along, eager to help in the dangerous mission. Bentley joins the group, insisting that his grenades will be useful against the elephants.

At a village camp, Bentley notes the food stores are untouched, arguing the elephants stampede through fear rather than hunger. He begins formulating a tactical approach based on fear rather than supply lines.

The group tracks the elephants deeper into the jungle, followed by Chandrakaul, a villager opposed to Sita's progressive policies. Chandrakaul's antagonism raises the stakes for everyone.

One night, a bear is let into Bentley's tent, though Bentley is swapped with Sita's Aunt Samira, who is attacked. Bentley then finds a scorpion in the same tent and suspects Singh of foul play.

Samira returns home and begs Sita to leave for safety, but Sita refuses. She remains determined to face the danger and protect her people.

They cross a ravine by a log bridge, but Chandrakaul pushes it into the ravine. Singh shoots Chandrakaul to protect the group and continue the mission.

The mammoths attack and the group takes refuge in the nearby hills. They try to deter the herd with grenades and gunfire, but the beasts prove stubborn.

Babu's monkey arms a grenade that rolls toward Sita. Bentley dives on it to shield her, and the blast triggers a landslide that buries the mammoths and some soldiers. In his final act he saves Sita, but is gravely injured.

Before dying, Bentley confesses that he planned to leave town without informing Singh about his brother. He dies after the landslide, leaving Singh and Sita to process the cost of their mission.
