With his one-eyed stare, towering build and near-sixty years of age, Raphael knows he frightens people. He shares a modest pavilion with his mother on the sprawling estate of the manor he guards. Since the owners died, he has led a quiet, solitary life, until the night the heiress Garance returns to the family home, disrupting his solitude.
