The Conman

King stays overnight at his mistress's place, which leads to Fanny discovering them. Heartbroken and disappointed, Fanny leaves King, creating a rift in their marriage. This event marks the beginning of King's personal turmoil and his separation from his family.

While gambling with Chung and Chimney, King finds himself threatened after Chimney discovers they secretly videotaped him. In a fight that ensues, King kills Chimney with a knife in self-defense, resulting in him becoming colorblind. This incident leads to his imprisonment and the start of his life-changing incarceration.

During his time in prison for manslaughter, King learns the skills of horse racing, which will later become crucial in his life. His incarceration isolates him but also becomes a turning point where he acquires new knowledge and strategies to succeed in gambling.

After serving five years, King is released from prison. He is greeted by the small-time gambler Dragon, who worships him. With Uncle Leng's help, Dragon picks King up, and they soon become partners, making money from horse racing.

King meets Dragon's younger sister, Ching, and falls in love with her. He discovers that her fiancé, Raymond, is a con artist who lies about college education and scams women. This prompts King and his allies to devise a plan to outsmart Raymond.

King, Dragon, and Rocky set up a scheme where Raymond believes he has killed King, forcing Raymond to flee to Cambodia. This plan helps Ching and solidifies King's love for her while also removing Raymond as a threat.

King actively searches for his wife Fanny and their son. Rocky takes him to Macau Mon's gambling cruise, where King is recognized by Handsome, Chimney's brother. On the cruise, King also encounters Chung, who falsely claimed Fanny committed suicide.

King discovers that Fanny was taken care of by Chung after his release from prison, and his son Little King lives with Chung. Handsome later kidnaps Fanny and Chung, resulting in Little King being injured during a confrontation.

Handsome blackmails King into helping him sabotage Macau Mon by creating a fake situation involving the 1998 FIFA World Cup. They plan to cause Macau Mon's heart attack using manipulated betting scenarios during the match broadcast, betting on France while Macau Mon bets on Brazil.

To execute their plan, King and his team hire a director to film fake footage of the World Cup, intercutting it with real broadcasts. This deception aims to manipulate betting outcomes and affect Macau Mon's health during the game.

The fake footage indicates Brazil winning 3–2 against France, but the real result is France winning 3–0. Upon realizing the deception, Macau Mon suffers a heart attack and dies, disrupting Handsome's plan to take control of the casino.

As Handsome attempts to seize Macau Mon’s casino, Macau Mon unexpectedly points a gun at him. Revealing he had previously poisoned Handsome by tricking him with a card, Macau Mon shoots and kills Handsome, regaining power.

The story concludes with King waiting at the bus station for Ching. However, he is suddenly run over by Dragon in a hurry, ending his life unexpectedly and leaving the audience with a tragic finale.
