The Vatican team arrives at the reopened 13th-century church in the Devon countryside, initiating the investigation into reported supernatural activity. Gray Parker sets up a multi-channel recording rig and begins documenting the site. The atmosphere is tense as locals watch and rumors swirl around the church.

Father Crellick claims a miracle has occurred and presents footage showing objects on the altar moving on their own. The team debates the significance of the video as the priest speaks with conviction. The incident raises questions about what they are really dealing with.

On the following day, local youths burn a sheep to death outside the men's cottage, escalating fear and superstition in the area. The violent act underlines the community's unease and stirs rumors about the church's powers. The investigators realize that the local atmosphere may be as dangerous as any unseen force.

Mark Amidon discovers a hidden side panel in the church and senses an unseen force as he approaches it. His ear begins to bleed, which he attributes to a ruptured eardrum caused by air pressure changes. The discovery hints at an underground or concealed space connected to the disturbances.

Deacon and Gray visit the local pub and confront hostility tied to Father Crellick's death. The pub’s owner evicts them after overhearing their discussions about folklore and the investigation. The mounting resentment makes the team’s presence feel dangerous and unwelcome.

Without consulting Mark, Deacon pursues clues and discovers a hidden door in the church bearing a pagan sigil. Behind it, a staircase descends into darkness where whispers, a baby’s cry, and Crellick’s screams echo ominously. The encounter hints at a hidden world beneath the church tied to ancient rites.

Deacon requests his elderly Vatican mentor, Father Calvino, to visit and purify the church grounds. Calvino explains that Christian churches were often built on former pagan temple sites, and he cites aerial evidence of a site of human sacrifices. He prepares for an exorcism, warning that the evil presence will resist their efforts.

During the exorcism, violent and invisible forces shake the church. Mark appears to be killed and Calvino’s eyes bleed, after which both vanish mysteriously. Deacon, hearing distant cries, follows them to a hidden staircase.

Gray and Deacon descend into a subterranean labyrinth beneath the church and uncover evidence of child sacrifice and the former minister’s conversion to pagan worship. They glimpse Mark walking into the darkness and recover Calvino’s ornamental crucifix lying on the tunnel floor.

They crawl through a narrow, foul-smelling passage that appears to be part of a living organism’s digestive system. The walls begin to secrete strong enzymes that threaten to dissolve them as exits contract. With the lights failing, Gray screams in agony while Deacon recites the Lord’s Prayer, clinging to faith as the tunnel closes around them.
