The long‑dead ancestress of a noble house returns to haunt her last two surviving descendants, unable to rest until the family line ends. Her appearance is taken as a dire omen. The aging, childless patriarch urges his daughter to marry, and she is drawn to the handsome noble Jaromir, who hides a secret. The restless spirit hopes this marriage will finally end her torment.
