What Is The Wrong Arm of the Law About? (No Spoilers)

The plot of The Wrong Arm of the Law (1963) without spoilers: what it is about, who it follows and where it takes place, told without the twists or the ending. Enough to decide whether it is your next watch, not enough to ruin it.

In the bustling landscape of London’s criminal underworld, a cunning mastermind named Pearly Gates runs a tight operation disguised behind the veneer of a high-end French fashion house. As the leader of a thriving syndicate, he presides over a closed-shop arrangement that keeps rival gangs in check and business running smoothly. However, the status quo is disrupted when a gang of impostors begins masquerading as police officers, stealing the loot right out from under the criminals who worked to acquire it.

This strange turn of events creates an unprecedented dilemma for the city's thieves, who find themselves targeted by a foe they cannot easily identify or combat. As the "I.P.O. Mob" continues to harass the underworld, the frustration mounts, leading to a realization that the situation requires an unorthodox solution. The local criminals, usually at odds with the law, find themselves contemplating a truce with the very force meant to dismantle them.

Enter Inspector Fred "Nosy" Parker, a shrewd officer who finds himself thrust into the middle of this peculiar conflict. As the lines between law enforcer and lawbreaker blur, the narrative unfolds with wry humor and tense negotiation. The story sets the stage for a unique partnership where strategy and suspicion go hand in hand, promising a caper where the only thing more dangerous than the criminals might be the men pretending to arrest them.
