The Woman in the Fifth

American writer Tom Ricks arrives in Paris with the hope of being closer to his young daughter, who resides with his ex-wife. This decision marks the beginning of his journey to reconnect with his family while battling his past struggles with mental illness.

In an effort to support himself financially, Tom takes a job as a night guard for a local crime boss. He is tasked with minimal responsibility, which includes a simple act of pressing a button in a dilapidated hostel, allowing him to focus on writing his novel.

Tom meets Margit, a captivating widow, who imposes specific conditions on their relationship. They agree to meet at her apartment in the fifth arrondissement at 5 PM, twice a week, with the stipulation that Tom must not inquire about her work or past.
