The Wild Pair

A team of commandos storms a neighborhood gym as Benny Avalon plays basketball, killing two teens and setting an adjacent building on fire with explosives. Colonel Hester watches from a dark Cadillac, underscoring the ruthlessness of The Sentinel. Avalon learns that several of the victims are people he knows, deepening his resolve to stop the gang.

At a topless bar, FBI Agent Joe Jennings is drawn into Avalon’s clash with a patron, triggering a barroom brawl. The fight foreshadows a difficult partnership as both men survive and learn to rely on each other. Captain Kramer then orders them to work together to infiltrate Jones's criminal network.

Captain Kramer pairs Avalon with Jennings to infiltrate Ivory Jones's organization, despite Jennings's reluctance. The FBI confirms the assignment, which fuels Jennings’s unease about the alliance. The two officers begin to test each other as they plan the infiltration.

Avalon discreetly disables Jennings’s car to prevent him from going it alone. After Jennings survives an ambush, Avalon subdues the attackers and accuses Jennings of setting him up, testing trust between the partners. The two officers slowly acknowledge that they must work together to bring down Jones.

Avalon raids an illegal casino and massage parlor in an old firehouse, cornering the informant Tucker. Tucker is killed in the fallout of the crooked deal, escalating the underworld’s violence. Jennings and Avalon realize that The Sentinel’s reach extends into their circle.

Jennings stages an undercover drug buy with Jones but steals the drugs, warning that The Sentinel is behind the operation. A preliminary meeting in an abandoned building reveals that Captain Kramer is secretly working for Hester. The revelation tightens the bond between Avalon and Jennings as they confront the conspiracy.

Avalon introduces Jennings to Fern Willis at a restaurant, where Debby is also present. Gunfire erupts outside, and Tucker is killed; Debby and Fern escape while Avalon chases attackers on a pizza-delivery motorcycle. He causes a crash and an explosion before returning the damaged bike to the owner.

Jennings is abducted by Sentinel soldiers posing as police, leaving Avalon to face a brutal personal loss. He finds Debby dead in her apartment, Fern dead on the sofa, and Beatrice the cat dead as well, spurring a vow to avenge them. The personal tragedy heightens the stakes of bringing Hester’s network to justice.

Kramer returns to the precinct with a false sense of control, but Avalon exposes his collusion. In a brutal confrontation, Avalon breaks Kramer’s neck, killing him and severing a crucial link in The Sentinel’s chain of command. The act reveals the depth of corruption and clears the way for the final showdown with Hester.

Avalon and Jennings lead a daring assault on the Sentinel camp, detonating explosives and fighting through guards to reach the inner compound. They free Jennings, and together they gun down several of Hester’s men while Jones’s armored limousine is destroyed as Jennings diverts it and Avalon uses a Sentinel tank. The operation cracks The Sentinel’s grip on the city.

Hester tries to flee but is confronted at his desk inside the compound. Avalon uses high-tech weapons and a medieval ball-and-chain to subdue him, and a final confrontation ends with Avalon fatally stabbing Hester as police sirens approach. The tyrannical leader is defeated, but the battle leaves scars on everyone involved.

Back in the neighborhood gym, Avalon begins a quiet recovery as he mentors the youth he cares about. Jennings visits to say farewell before leaving for vacation and gifts Avalon a kitten named Joe, joking about the pizza delivery bill. The scene closes on a note of fragile peace and ongoing duty.
