The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart

Three days after Hank’s mysterious disappearance, the O.S.I. gets sidetracked by an unexpected assault from a minor Guild villain targeting one of their labs, equipped with advanced technology from the enigmatic newcomer, ARCH. The Council of Thirteen dispatches Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and Red Death to delve into the situation, only to uncover a surprising DNA link tying them to Hank’s initiation into the Guild. This revelation leads the Council to issue a serious directive: avoid making any moves against Dr. Venture until they can definitively establish their familial ties. On another front, Dr. Venture wrestles with perfecting his latest project, the “HelperPod” virtual assistant, but a nagging bug causes it to float whimsically while it plays tunes, much to his frustration.

Meanwhile, burdened with remorse for his misguided romantic encounter with Hank’s girlfriend, Dean seeks comfort from Orpheus, who, alongside Jefferson Twilight, embarks on a daring mission to find Hank. Fueled by his vivid imagination and personas—The Detective, The Bat, Russian Guyovich, and Enrico Matassa—Hank feels a pull back to his old haunts at the Venture compound, where he’s on a quest for personal discovery in familiar territory. As fate would have it, The Monarch is approached by his former girlfriend, Mantilla, the enigmatic leader of ARCH, who presents him with an enticing offer: ally with ARCH, and he can seek revenge against Dr. Venture once more. Upon Hank’s return to the neglected Venture compound, he is greeted by his old friend and O.S.I. cadet, Dermott, who shows him a photo of Bobbi St. Simone containing a heartfelt inscription from Dr. Venture, hidden among a stash of nostalgic Venture memorabilia.

In an unexpected twist, Jefferson finds himself under siege in Chicago from a wretched army of blaculas, while Dean battles to keep a secret after one of them bites him. Meanwhile, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch is framed for her supposed leadership role at ARCH which leads to backlash from the Guild; fortunately, Red Death comes to her aid, helping her escape. Shortly thereafter, The Monarch and 21 are abruptly abandoned by ARCH during a disastrous heist gone wrong at VenTech Tower, where Mantilla cleverly utilizes 21’s phone to hack into the HelperPods, turning their floating glitch into a chaotic spiral that sends the tower careening into an unstable orbit.

Upon arriving at Bobbi St. Simone’s animal sanctuary, Hank is captivated by her turbulent backstory: her brief encounter with Jonas who granted her temporary invisibility powers for a film, her recruitment by the O.S.I. as a double agent, and an ill-fated affair with Force Majeure that led to the birth of their daughter, Mantilla. After a ruthless murder by The Sovereign in a bid for power, Bobbi fled, seeking protection for her family in years of seclusion. As Hank grapples with the effects of a head injury, he finds himself once more enchanted by the allure of purgatory.

In a riveting twist, Billy and Pete urge Rusty to systematically dismantle the HelperPods in a strategy aimed at coaxing the tower back to safety. The team, including Hatred and 21, teeters on the brink of succumbing to the overpowering gravitational force from the hovering devices and scrambles for refuge in the air ducts to avert disaster.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch breaks into Mantilla’s space and discovers her expectant guest. Mantilla expresses her admiration for Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and proposes they co-lead ARCH, citing their shared bloodline as a compelling reason for their alliance. She reveals the astonishing truth: Dr. Venture had once passed his mother’s unique invisibility power to her as payment for a priceless legacy—the eggs that would later grow into Hank and Dean. This revelation suggests she is the biological mother of the Venture brothers. Utilizing her newfound gifts, she swiftly shuts down the HelperPods, triggering a chain reaction that sends the tower spiraling towards earth at alarming speed.

Amidst all this turmoil, Orpheus arrives in purgatory to save Hank, who learns it was Dean who initiated his dramatic rescue. As chance would have it, Dean inadvertently ends up in the afterlife, becoming a target for his father’s fictional characters. Orpheus steps in, saving both brothers and restoring their long-awaited reconciliation.

In the final moments, as Hatred navigates the atmosphere with the comically mismanaged tower, they stumble upon a hidden Ventronic mech within its confines. The team swiftly formulates a plan to stabilize the falling structure, although in the commotion, The Monarch accidentally ejects his share of the robot. With the support of Hunter Gathers and the O.S.I. mothership, Ventronic adeptly steers the tower toward a safe landing among the ruins of the compound—achieved just as The Monarch meets an unfortunate fate, impaled by the statue of Jonas.

Following this tumultuous encounter, Dean hesitantly reveals his bite to Jefferson, who clarifies that it was sustained during a protective maneuver when he tackled Dean, inadvertently leaving his tooth necklace behind. As the dust settles, Ben burst onto the scene, his swift thinking critical in providing an emergency transfusion using Dr. Venture’s blood to save The Monarch. This unforeseen circumstance leads to a remarkable reveal: The Monarch is not Dr. Venture’s brother, but a genetically engineered clone conceived for his parents’ infertility, a procedure that went a bit sideways thanks to the introduction of baboon DNA traits, fueling his hostility.
