Lois Conway begins receiving anonymous admirer notes and suspects her favorite student, Sandy Wilder, is the author. Lois tells Principal Pendleton about the assault, but Pendleton defends Leonard and urges Lois to provide concrete evidence. Gossip swirls at the school, suggesting Lois may be pursuing a relationship with the student, harming her reputation.

Lois pulls Leonard out of class to talk, but he refuses to listen and remains defiant. The exchange intensifies the strain between teacher and student and deepens the surrounding controversy.

Lois visits the Bennett home to press for accountability, but Leonard's father resists and learns that police are now involved. The case gains momentum and broadens its reach beyond the classroom.

At a football game, Graham helps Lois obtain Leonard's fingerprints from his locker. The prints match those found at Lois's apartment, strengthening the link between Leonard and the earlier incidents.

During the school dance, Lois warns Leonard about the police discovery and the consequences of denial. Leonard speaks truthfully to her for the first time, but Mr. Bennett manipulates him into doubting Lois. Lois is tricked, and Graham moves to arrest Leonard.

At the police station, Lois, now suspended, is brought in with Graham to obtain an honest confession from Leonard. They are told that another man has admitted to the murder, which changes the trajectory of the case.

Back at Lois's home, Mr. Bennett bursts from her closet and assaults her, escalating the danger. Leonard, feeling forgiven by his teacher, uses the moment to reveal the truth about the letters.

Leonard confesses to Graham that he wrote the letters and broke into Lois's apartment, seeking absolution. He asks permission to walk home to think things over while Graham returns to Lois.

Graham pursues Bennett, who escapes to his own home and climbs a trellis to his son's room. Unable to open the window, Bennett falls onto the patio below and dies instantly, bringing a tragic end to the ordeal.
