Based on the second Erast Fandorin novel by Boris Akunin, the story takes place in 1877 during the Russian‑Turkish War. After escaping a Turkish prison, Erast rushes to re‑join Russian forces and warn them of an imminent attack. En route he meets Varvara Suvorova, a young woman heading to see her fiancé, a Russian soldier, spy may be among troops.
