The Three Musketeers - Part I: D'Artagnan

D'Artagnan was attacked while trying to rescue a young woman from being taken by a shadowy older woman and her henchmen. This woman was later revealed to be the same one found dead beside Athos, making her a key figure in the conspiracy. Cardinal Richelieu seeks to expose Queen Anne's secret affair with the Duke of Buckingham to disgrace her and potentially weaken England's influence over France. He uses Milady as his agent to gather evidence and create situations that would force the affair into the open, particularly by ensuring the diamonds would be traced back to Buckingham.

Richelieu's guards interrupt the musketeers' duel, showing his constant surveillance of both the musketeers and the Queen.

D'Artagnan pursues Milady in a high-speed chase after she steals the diamonds from the Queen. He manages to corner her and reclaim the jewels just as she attempts to escape, returning just in time for Queen Anne to wear them at the wedding and preserve her honor.

The chase mirrors D'Artagnan's earlier pursuit of his original attacker, showing his determination when others are in danger.

Milady targets Constance because she serves as the Queen's lady-in-chief and is the primary messenger between Anne and Buckingham. By eliminating Constance, Milady can disrupt the Queen's communications and advance Richelieu's scheme. At the end of the film, Milady's henchmen abduct Constance, leading to D'Artagnan being knocked unconscious while trying to rescue her.

Constance's role as the Queen's confidante makes her a natural target for Richelieu's network.

At the end of the film, D'Artagnan is knocked unconscious by one of Milady's henchmen while attempting to rescue Constance from another abduction. This leaves his fate uncertain as the first installment ends, setting up the sequel where this storyline will presumably continue.
